Every year since 2015 I’ve taken on the burden of trying out the new ice cream of the season so you don’t have to. I know, it’s a hard job but someone’s gotta do it. Your hips and future status a a non-diabetic are welcome. As usual, the test is based on the current assortment available at my local store which means I haven’t tried the full set, and the panel of judges consists me and my dear husband. This year, though, I’ve expanded the test to also include the news from Triumf Glass which means there’s also the competition with GB Glace. Exciting times!
GB Glacé
Ben & Jerry’s Cookie Dough Peace Pop: vanilla ice cream with chocolate pieces and a core of cookie dough. Dipped in chocolate.
To be fair, I’m of the unpopular opinion that Ben & Jerry’s is way overrated so I might not be 100% fair here but this thing is rubbish. The chocolate coating is soft and chewy when you expect the usual “snap” and the vanilla ice cream tastes nothing really. The raw cookie dough is just sugary. Hubby is usually down for a pint of their cookie dough ice cream but he’s not convinced here. It gets🍦from me and 🍦🍦 from hubby.
Cornetto Dragon: Mango and passionfruit ice cream with strawberry sauce and cookie crumbs in a chocolate cone.
I like this one! Maybe a little bit too sweet and a bit like a kids’ cone but the overall verdict is positive. 🍦🍦🍦🍦 Husband’s ruling is more “meh” but he doesn’t dislike it. He gives it 🍦🍦🍦If you find yourself in front of the ice box this summer and want to try something new, this is a fruity safe bet.
Cornetto Soft Chocolate: soft (well duh) vanilla ice cream with chocolate sauce.
Had low expectations on this one, not a fan of plain vanilla, but this is something else. The texture actually makes a difference and I give it 🍦🍦🍦🍦 Hubby just scoffed and said “ice cream is supposed to be rock hard”. 🍦🍦
Magnum Double Gold Caramel Billionaire: pecan and cookie ice cream with salted caramel coated in gold chocolate with pecan and cookie crumble.
The name is a handful but if you’re a fan of salted caramel and pecans, this is the ice cream for you. And for me because I’m a sucker for that stuff – I demolished mine in record time! If you want to treat yourself then this is the way to do it. 🍦🍦🍦🍦🍦 and test winner!
Twister Peek-A-Blue: ice pop with twinned strands of blueberry, melon and strawberry Just no. It says natural flavors but tastes like anything but. It looks disgusting. Hubby didn’t even want to try. Don’t buy it. Not even to try. Just put it back down in the freezer and walk away. ❌
Triumf Glass
Snickers Stick: peanut ice cream and fudge covered in chocolate.
Holy cow this is good! If you like snickers and if you like ice cream then this is the combo for you. I give it 🍦🍦🍦🍦🍦 and hubby 🍦🍦🍦🍦
Tutti Frutti: popsicle tasting of the gummi candy with the same name
Well yes, it tastes exactly like the candy so if that’s a favorite of yours then this pop is for you. Not my cup of tea but still a solid 🍦🍦🍦
Uncle Arne’s Salty Licorice: vanilla ice cream with licorice sauce coated in white chocolate and licorice crumbs. Hubby is the main panelist here, he’s the licorice fanatic in the family. He was a bit disappointed by it, though. Not enough taste of licorice and too sweet with the white chocolate. Still an ok🍦🍦🍦
Summary
Winner of the test is the new Magnum with the Snickers Stick in close second. GB Glace gave us both the highest highs but also really terrible lows. Triumf gave us a more even taste experience with overall ok scores. The winner does, however, famously take it all and GB Glace walks away with a narrow victory.
🍦See you next year!🍦
